He started composing in 2004 at the age of 15 and initially uploaded content to Newgrounds, before expanding to other platforms such as YouTube and Spotify.

His music is known for its unique sound in combining orchestra with electronic. He was one of the earliest composers on Newgrounds to build a significant fanbase and was active in the same period as other popular artists on the site such as ParagonX9, Dimrain47, and F-777. One of his earliest tracks "Glorious Morning" remains one of the highest viewed track in the all-time rankings on Newgrounds.[2]

Between commissions for composition, sound effects and sound design, he has released 16 albums within the last 10 years and hundreds of individual tracks. He has worked with numerous video game developers including "Zen Studios", "The Behemoth", and "MaxGames" and often involves himself in other areas of game development besides music.

Discography[] Green[]

On September 19, 2009, Krogsvold released his debut album, Green, which contains about 12 songs. The album is known for the song "Space Pirates" which was later used in the video game Geometry Dash World (released in 2016). Ever since then, the song has amassed over 2 million streams on Spotify, while the other songs had 10K-100K+ streams.

Adventure[]

On May 14, 2012, he released his second album, Adventure, which is known for the song "Time Machine" also used in Geometry Dash. However, there is also another song "The Race Around The World" which is popular but not used in the game, as it has over 1M+ streams. It also contained the mini-hit song "Cats!".

Showdown[]

On September 1, 2013, he released his third album Showdown, which contains the Geometry Dash hit, Clutterfunk. "Haunted Woods", "Stereophonic Sound" and "Toxic Sewers" were also fan favorites.

Community Favorites[]

On February 14, 2015, (Valentine's Day), he released his fourth album, Community Favourites. This is basically his best album of all time, as it contains his songs that were used in Geometry Dash, and a variety of hit songs on Newgrounds. It also contains the popular "Glorious Morning" which is his most streamed song on Spotify (with over 6 million streams). Along with that also came the 2013 reworked "Glorious Morning 2".

Surge[]

On December 9, 2017, he released his fifth album, Surge. The album does not contain songs that were used in the Geometry Dash official levels, however, it's known for a song named "Final Battle", which has almost 7 million views on YouTube. It also contains the songs "Everybody Bounce" and "Meltdown", both of which are also hits off the album.

Vast[]

By the end of 2020, Krogsvold posted on his Newgrounds account that he is working on his sixth album, and that it will contain 50 tracks, an astounding 26 more than his previous highest, Community Favorites, which had a mere 24. On August 29th, 2021, it was announced by Krogsvold himself that the album would be titled Vast, and set a release date for September 20th, 2021. He also said it would feature tracks remastered from 2009-2021.

Other[]

His other interests include pixel art, photography, animation, and games. He is also close friends and collaborator with another self-taught composer named Denny Schneidemesser, as co-directors of Autodidactic Studios[3].

Trivia[] His Spotify, YouTube, and SoundCloud usernames are the same (waterflame89). The numbers are a reference to his year of birth (1989). He uploads his songs to Newgrounds and YouTube before releasing them within his next album. He has revealed his face on both his user and artist page on Spotify. Apart from making songs, he also makes short films and pixel artwork. His Newgrounds name was Chainsaw_09 before changing it to Waterflame. This can be seen by downloading his first few tracks and checking the artist tag.
